Key Data & Justification

Rural Health Disparities

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), women in rural areas are more likely to experience poor health due to limited access to healthcare services and societal pressures.

Mental Health Challenges

Mental health issues are particularly prevalent, with women in rural areas facing a 20% higher risk of depression compared to urban counterparts.

Gender-Based Violence

In Kenya, 56% of women and 38% of girls experience some form of gender-based violence, which has a direct impact on their mental and physical health.

Maternal Health

The maternal mortality rate in rural areas of Kenya is still high, with an estimated 342 deaths per 100,000 live births, which is nearly double the national average of 213.
